چکیده

Background: Heteromeric αβ glycine receptor β+/αinterfaces have never been unambiguously characterized. Results: This interface, compared with the α+/αinterface, is highly sensitive to agonist and experiences distinct conformational changes upon agonist binding. Conclusion: The β+/αinterface exhibits distinct properties. Significance: Our investigation directs the β+/αinterface-specific drug design and provides a general methodology for unambiguously characterizing heteromeric proteins interfaces.

Multiple Non-Equivalent Interfaces Mediate Direct Activation of GABAA Receptors by Propofol

BACKGROUND Propofol is a sedative agent that at clinical concentrations acts by allosterically activating or potentiating the γ-aminobutyric acid type A (GABAA) receptor. Mutational, modeling, and photolabeling studies with propofol and its analogues have identified potential interaction sites in the transmembrane domain of the receptor. At the "+" of the β subunit, in the β-α...

Atomically thin group v elemental films: theoretical investigations of antimonene allotropes.

Group V elemental monolayers including phosphorene are emerging as promising 2D materials with semiconducting electronic properties. Here, we present the results of first-principles calculations on stability, mechanical and electronic properties of 2D antimony (Sb), antimonene. Our calculations show that free-standing α and β allotropes of antimonene are stable and semiconducting. The α-Sb has ...

Molecular Insight into the Mutual Interactions of Two Transmembrane Domains of Human Glycine Receptor (TM23-GlyR), with the Lipid Bilayers

Appearing as a computational microscope, MD simulation can ‘zoom in’ to atomic resolution to assess detailed interactions of a membrane protein with its surrounding lipids, which play important roles in the stability and function of such proteins. This study has employed the molecular dynamics (MD) simulations, to determine the effect of added DMPC or DMTAP molecules on the structure of D...

Physicochemical Position-Dependent Properties in the Protein Secondary Structures

Background: Establishing theories for designing arbitrary protein structures is complicated and depends on understanding the principles for protein folding, which is affected by applied features. Computer algorithms can reach high precision and stability in computationally designing enzymes and binders by applying informative features obtained from natural structures. Methods: In this study, a ...

Na,K-ATPase β-subunit cis homo-oligomerization is necessary for epithelial lumen formation in mammalian cells.

Na,K-ATPase is a hetero-oligomer of an α- and a β-subunit. The α-subunit (Na,K-α) possesses the catalytic function, whereas the β-subunit (Na,K-β) has cell-cell adhesion function and is localized to the apical junctional complex in polarized epithelial cells. Earlier, we identified two distinct conserved motifs on the Na,K-β(1) transmembrane domain that mediate protein-protein interactions: a g...
